Circuit Breaker
Types, working principle and why it is used?.
1- Circuit Breaker:
Circuit breaker is an electromechanical safety device which is used for switching of electrical circuit with
protection as overload and short circuit. It protects the system as mechanical function. When any fault or interruption in
an electrical circuit then it will trip and equipment will safe.
Different types circuit breakers are used according equipment capacity, fault severity, low voltage or high voltage etc.
2- Working Principle of Circuit breaker:
The mainly work of circuit breaker is to close or open to the any electrical circuit. It has two contact
moving and fix.
If the circuit breaker is low capacity-2A to 63A then it is operated as manual. If the circuit breaker is
high capacity then it is used as both types auto and manual.
Manual mode:
In manual function a spring mechanism is operated for circuit closing and tripping function. Moving contact is contacted to the fixed contact by pressure of spring mechanism with strip. Due to short circuit or heavy load the tripping mechanism is activated.
Auto mode:
In auto function the spring mechanism is operated with a electromechanical closing coil and tripping mechanism is operated with shunt coil. A operating supply is provided from auto management system and tripping supply is provided from short circuit or over load relay.
3- Types of circuit breakers:
1- Low Voltage Circuit Breaker:
MCB- Miniature case circuit breaker.
MCB is a electromechanical device which is used for protection of circuit from short circuit and overload.
