1- What is chemical earthing and why it is used?:

1- Definition:

Chemical earthing is used for safety as per other earthing like as plate and pipe. Working is same but Construction is Different. In chemical earthing, a chemical material- bentonite or graphite based compound is filled in copper and aluminium pipe. Chemical electrode is installed three meters below from ground surface. Electrode top is connected to earth strip or earth wire which is connected with electrical system.

2- Why it is used?

Chemical earthing is a good earth electrode in comparison of other as plate and pipe. It is used for maintaining the low resistivity of soil. It is maintenance free earthing and efficiency is better than other earthing. Its life is 6 to 8 years. It is initial cost is high but maintenance cost is zero.

3- Parts of Chemical Earthing:

1- Earth Pit:

Earth pit is the main part of ground where earth electrode is connected to the distribution earth wire or strip.

2- Earth pipe:

Earth pipe is used as earth electrode which is installed below three meters from ground surface.

3- Chemical compound:

bentonite and graphite compound is filled in earth pipe in place of coal, salt and plate.

4- Earthing wire:

Earthing wire is used for current discharging from equipment to earth pit.

4- Installation Procedure of Chemical Earthing:

Chemical earthing is a complete procedure of installation which is described below mentioned points.

  • Dig the ground below three meters form ground surface.
  • Copper and aluminium pipe is used and installed three meters below from surface.
  • Bentonite and graphite compound is is filled in pipe.
  • A earth pit one feet square is constructed on the ground surface of earthing.
  • Top of the pipe is connected with GI strip or earth wire.
  • Earth pit strip is connected into earth wire or earth single core wire.
  • Earth wire is connected with electrical system or equipments.

5- Importance of Chemical Earthing:

Earthing is most essential part of electrical system so it has more importance points as per below mentioned.

  • Protect any human from electrical shock during leakage current equipment body.
  • Protect to the electrical equipment form any short circut before insulation failure.
  • protect to the high rise building and electrical system from sky lightning.
  • protect to the electrical equipment from fire case.
