1- LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) Safety System:

LOTO is a safety system which is used during maintenance activity or any equipment failure. This system works as two types one is equipment lock and second is information tag which is used for reason of equipment lock.

Before start any maintenance activity LOTO procedure should be used. First of all primary energy source is locked and tag is used for do not operate printed information on it with authorized person name and phone number.

1- What is the Lock Out in LOTO Safety System?:

First of all for any maintenance activity, the energy source is switched off then it is locked with specially design lock so that equipment could not be start or switch On. Different types locks are used for isolating energy sources according equipment as MCB lock, ACB lock, butterfly valve lock etc.

2- What is the Tag Out in LOTO Safety System:

Tag is used for providing information about locked incoming energy source. Do not operate information is printed on it as bold letters and also is mentioned authorized person name, number and reason. Different types tag are used in tag out system which is below mentioned.

• Red Tag: It is used when maintenance activity on equipment is running .
• Yellow Tag:It is used when equipment is breakdown condition and maintenance activity has been scheduled in coming time.

2- Execution/Working Procedure:

LOTO procedure is used when equipment failure or mall functioning and it is followed step by step process. The details of process below mentioned.

1- Work Permit and Notify to Employees :

Before start maintenance or repairing activity the work permit is prepaired throug authorised persons so that all person should be awaire.

2- Identify energy source :

First of all exject energy sources identified so that LOTO procedure could be apply.

3- Shutdown effected equipment :

Complet shut down affected equipment for maintenace or repairing purpose.

4- Isolate energy source :

Connected energy sources is isolated

5- Apply Lock on isolate energy source :

6- Apply Tag on isolate energy source:

7- Maintenance or repairing activity procedure. :

8- Remove lock and Tag from isolate energy source :

9- Resume or activate energy source :

10- Switch On or activate equipment :

• Switch off the energy source which may be electrical, mechanical, hydraulic or other.
• Lock the energy source equipment so that any one could not start.
• The reason of equipment locking is mentioned on tag.
• Name and sign of authorized person is mentioned on tag.
• After completion the task, the energy source equipment is unlocked.
• After completion of task, the red tag is also removed from energy source equipment.
• If the failure equipment problem is not rectified and it is scheduled in coming time then yellow tang is replaced in place of red tag with schedule reason.
