How to Test With testing lamp.
1- Single Phase Motor Test with Testing Lamp:
Single phase motor is checked when it is faulty or after rewinding. Many methods are available for testing or check single phase motor. Testing lamp methods are given below mentioned.
Single phase motor has two windings, one is running winding second is starting winding. Firstly, power connection is disconnected from connection plate then motor can be tested below mentioned procedures.
Testing lamp is a test methods which is used in commonly for winding coil insulation test, open circuit test, short circuit test. A test lamp is connected with testing coil in series.

3- Types of single phase motor test :
Mostly three types problems are found in motor as below mentioned.
- Insulation resistance test.
- Coil open test.
- Short circuit test.
4- Insulation Resistance Test:
Both windings insulation is tested with test lamp methods. in this test running and starting winding insulation is checked. Is it ok or failure? single phase windings donate as R1, R2 and S1, S2 which are mentioned on terminal plate as main R1, starting S1 and common point R2, S2.
A- Main or running winding insulation test.
Testing lamp is connected with R1 and R2 terminal. If the lamp is glowing as normal than winding insulation has burn or failure. If the lamp is glowing as slower than winding is ok or normal condition.
B- Starting winding insulation test.
Testing lamp is connected with S1 and S2 terminal. If the lamp is glowing as normal than winding insulation has burn or failure. If the lamp is glowing as slower then winding is ok or normal condition.
5- Open Circuit Test:
In this test running and starting winding continuity is checked. Is it close or open? single phase windings donate as R1, R2 and S1, S2 which are mentioned on terminal plate as main R1, starting S1 and common point R2, S2.
A- Running winding open circuit test:
Testing lamp is connected with R1 and R2 terminal. If the lamp is glowing as normal than winding continuity is close. If the lamp is not glowing then winding is open condition.
B- Starting winding open circuit test:
Testing lamp is connected with S1 and S2 terminal. If the bulb is glowing as normal than winding continuity is close. If the lamp is not glowing then winding is open condition.
6- Short Circuit Test:
In this test main winding and starting winding continuity is checked with each other and motor body. single phase windings donate as R1, R2 and S1, S2 which are mentioned on terminal plate as main R1, starting S1 and common point R2, S2.
A- Short circuit test between running and starting winding:
Testing lamp is connected with R1, R2 and S1, S2. If the lamp is glowing as normal than winding continuity is close. It means both windings are short. If the lamp is not glowing then winding is not short. It means winding is ok condition.
B- Short circuit test between running winding and motor body:
Testing lamp is connected with R1, R2 and motor body. If the bulb is glowing as normal than winding continuity is close. It means running winding is short with motor. If the lamp is not glowing then winding is not short. It means running winding is ok condition.
C- Short circuit test between starting winding and motor body:
Testing lamp is connected with starting winding and motor body. If the lamp is glowing as normal than winding continuity is close. It means starting winding is short. If the lamp is not glowing then starting winding is not short. It means winding is ok condition.
